Maybe I just haven’t been around the block in the area of theological debates, but I have never heard the objection that Paul taught things foreign to Jesus Christ’s teachings. Sure, Paul goes into the deep implications of such ideas as justification and the depravity of fallen man, but he didn’t come up with these ideas on his own! There are themes recorded in the Old Testament and subjects spoken of by Jesus that Paul ponders and considers, then in his philosophical style, he thinks through the logical implications that must necessarily be made from these teachings. Since becoming a Christian, I’ve always believed in the infallibility of the Scriptures and certainly in the coherency of all the texts within. This idea that Paul invented the majority of the Christian religion is utterly foreign and repulsive to me.
