Genesis 1

Did God create the universe in 6 days? Or is a “day” a metaphor for a much longer time period. I don’t doubt that God did, indeed, create the universe. But I’m not totally convinced that He did it in literally six 24-hour days. Not that I doubt He has the power to. It’s just that science (which is the analysis of God-created nature) suggests that the Earth’s age is millions of years old, and that there were much larger time-frames between when certain things existed on the Earth. So, if the analysis of God’s creation shows that the Earth’s origin happened over long periods of time, why not believe that was so? No one’s saying God is any less powerful. Just that He chose to create the Earth in that manner. But He still created it.

I don’t believe science and God are mutually exclusive. If God created the universe, then he also created the laws of nature, and therefore the laws of science. There is a way Creationism and carbon dating can be explained without contradiction. So, with our limited knowledge of science, why not assume that the language of the Bible is metaphoric, when talking about creation? Does it hurt to allow science to educate our interpretation of the Scriptures?

To me, the time in which creation took place is much less important than the fact that God was in fact the Creator.

On another note, God clearly gives man the authority to have dominion over all the animals, plants, and living things on the Earth. This chapter makes no mention of abusing this authority — just that man does have authority. Animals do not have the same “rights” as humans.

Genesis 1-2

What a week! It sure seemed a lot longer than seven days, but what do I know? Time really isn’t something I’m used to yet.

There’s so much to talk about – I’m not sure where to start. Maybe with the whole light n’ darkness thing. Maybe with those unbearably cute fuzzy hoppy things. Or maybe with the unaware “mini me” Big G created.

I don’t understand why Big G felt compelled to create man. Especially when he’s got plenty of us already. Lonely A is a disaster. I understand he looks a bit more like Big G – but he’s hardly superior to us. Lonely A is completely oblivious to Big G‘s importance, or of the battles we fight every day. All he does is play with those (albeit adorable) animals and sleep ’til noon in the garden. Could life be more difficult?

Lonely A‘s inevitable run-in with ShineyBoy is going to be epic. I’m not rooting for the opposition, or anything. I just don’t think Lonely A stands much of a chance in the long run.

Could this man be the shortest-lived experiment to come from Heaven? That depends on how much Big G steps in to intervene. I have a strong feeling Lonely A will need constant supervision and intervention. Is he really worth the trouble?

SPOTTED:

Lonely A acting mildly frustrated with the animals in the garden. Apparently, he’s having a tough time finding a friend. Good luck, Lonely A. Do me a favor and stay away from the cute hoppy things.

Curious-looking reptile heading towards the garden. It didn’t take long for word to spread. Watch out, Lonely A. Here comes trouble.

On the day of the Fall, human nature became spiritually discerned. Man became naturally sinful because of the sin of Adam. But apart from human kind, the world itself “fell.” The ground became at enmity with man, and to this day, “the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now” (Rom. 8:22). But just as man will one day be redeemed, “creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God” (21). It’s amazing (and even frightening) how one man’s sin corrupted most of creation.
